Background
After studying political and social sciences, achieving his phd, and working at the university for a number of years, Roel (1947) opted for a professional carreer as photographer, specialising in documentary/journalistic photography, mainly in developing countries (for a brief taste of this work see "links"). Besides this he has also for many years now been active making autonomous art photographic work. It is the latter he wants to show on this site. The basic premises of his autonomous work is two-fold: to create dynamic and esthetically pleasing photographs, and to challenge the viewer to reflect, freely associate and give meaning to what he/she sees.
