Bodyscapes: a photographic journey of discovery.
Bodyscapes is the name I have given to the project under which nearly all my autonomous (fine art) photography falls. Taking the nude as starting point I explore what is photographically possible. Nature, landscapes, space, texture, abstract, esthetical forms, light, movement, tension, gripping, simple or more complicated compositions, emotions. Also the psychological, the sub-conscious, which are grouped under mindscapes.
Through trial and error I have come to the conclusion that a direct and unaffected approach using just one lamp, one (black or white) back-drop, no additional items and very little editing, gives me the most powerful narrative pictures.
The basic premises of my autonomous work, besides the exploratory, is two-fold: to create dynamic and esthetically pleasing photographs, to touch, confuse, and/or stimulate the viewer. What associations, thoughts, emotions and feelings does my work arouse? I want to challenge the viewer to reflect, freely associate and give meaning to what he/she sees. My work is also, partially, a comment on society.
